Running has many benefits, including improved endurance and cardiovascular health. For beginners, however, it may be at first difficult to take up this activity. Here are some tips:
1. Invest in a proper pair of running shoes. Don’t scrimp on this: your shoes can make or break your workout. If you can, visit a professional running store to have your gait and foot strike pattern evaluated. Based on this information, staff can help determine the best shoes for you.
2. Focus on distance, not speed. As your body becomes more accustomed to running, you can eventually pick up the pace and achieve the same distance more quickly. Although it can be hard at first, sticking to a schedule goes a long way toward the development of a healthy habit.
3. Don’t be afraid to slow down. If you need to take a break, just walk. Listening to your body does not mean giving up. In fact, studies have shown that taking walking breaks can actually improve overall strength and endurance.
